Natural Awakenings Gulf Coast Alabama Mississippi

20th Annual Alabama Coastal BirdFest & Nature Expo: A Celebration of Conservation and Community

The South Alabama Land Trust (SALT), a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of the Alabama Gulf Coast, is hosting the 20th Annual Alabama Coastal BirdFest & Nature Expo from Friday, October 4, 2024, through Sunday, October 6, 2024. This highly anticipated event allows birders and nature enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the rich biodiversity of the region.

Based at the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center in Spanish Fort, Alabama, BirdFest offers a special opportunity for visitors to explore the birds and habitats that make the Alabama Gulf Coast unique. The event coincides with the fall bird migration, making it a prime opportunity to observe birds heading south. Whether you’re an experienced birder or just beginning, BirdFest has something for everyone, including expert-led bird and nature tours by foot, kayak, boat and bike designed to showcase the incredible avian diversity and natural resources in this area.

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Nature Expo will welcome families eager to learn more about the critters and plants that call the Gulf Coast home. Everyone is welcome to enjoy live touch tanks, art exhibits and a live raptor show. New this year, SALT will be launching Gulf Coast Nature Passport at the Expo. The Nature Passport is a fun workbook for kids 8-12 years old to help them learn about our environment and win prizes. (Quantities are limited.)

As with previous years, this event celebrates the incredible wildlife of our region and highlights the importance of SALT’s work to protect land. By bringing together birders, families and nature lovers, the Alabama Coastal BirdFest & Nature Expo fosters a deep appreciation for the environment and inspires a collective effort to protect our natural world.
